Manuscript Templates

As one of the top book publishing companies, we make book publishing easy. Our printing and binding process requires minimum margin settings of .7 inch top and bottom and 3/4 inch left and right. Set your document size to the book size you plan on publishing, then include a top and bottom margin of .7 inch with headers and footers at .5 inch. Your side margins will be .75 inch. There can be absolutely no printing outside these margin settings unless paying for bleed.
Feel free to adjust your margins to present your work however you wish, as long as you adhere to these minimum requirements. For example, 1-inch margins all around are perfectly fine, but left or right margins of 1/8 inch or top or bottom margins of 1/4 inch would not work. Certain designs can have smaller margins. InstantPublisher recommends most authors stick to the standard settings but if your work requires special requirements please email for approval.

For your convenience, we have provided the following Microsoft Word (version 97 or later) and InDesign templates, which are set to our minimum margin requirements. Document pages should be set to single-page format, not "spreads." They are provided as samples only. It is not required that you use any of these templates. The fonts used in the samples are for illustrative purposes only. Feel free to use any fonts you wish in your document, when publishing your book.

To download any of the templates, click on the file name. If you have Microsoft Word loaded on your system, the template will open a document within the Microsoft Word plug-in in your browser. You can then save it on your local hard drive. You can also right click on the appropriate template and click "save target as" to save the template to your hard drive.

Note, the first page of your manuscript will be the first right hand page in your book.

Note, If you are unable to select the same paper size as your finished book size in your software, you can use the chart below to scale down an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper to the size of book you want to print. Set your document size to 8.5 x 11 inches, and then apply the appropriate margin settings from the table below.
