The Sergeant then explained that it would be a month before the men were cleared for “Top Secret,” during which time they would receive elementary introductory material at the Restricted level. The next day, classes began.
Master Sergeant Gordy was a formidable man. Almost six feet tall, perfect weight, very well groomed, shaved head and a permanent, genuine smile. He had achieved the highest enlisted rank in the Army. And most of that achievement was in the Intelligence Services.
He led the cryptographic assault on the Japanese codes during W.W.II... it was the breaking of those codes that saved thousands of American lives. And his HUMINT service was equally commendable. One of his forays in tactical intelligence was on Wake Island, where he landed with a Navy force while the island was still occupied by the Japanese.
Entering the classroom on the first day, Gordy explained the clearance process to the men. “Over the next month, investigators will probe every moment of your lives. They will talk with your friends, employers, teachers, parents and, most probably, some people that may not have the best opinion of you.”

About the Author: |
|
Dr. Malkin is a published author of seven books. “Wong’s Garden” is his second work of fiction. His recent work is a trilogy, named “Looking for a Better World.” The second work in the trilogy, “Empowering Children,” has been adopted by schools as a textbook for parents. Dr. Malkin has made hundreds of visits to schools with a moving and effective motivational presentation, urging children to do their personal best. That experience was the basis for Dr. Malkin’s first work of fiction, “Three Gifts of Gold.” This novella, “Wong’s Garden,” grew from Dr. Malkin’s wartime experiences as an intelligence professional.

Book Review: |
|
“Wong’s Garden” is not as it seems... true, it is the name of a bar in Southeast Asia. But that is a very small part of the story. The Government used the name as a code word for a highly classified NSA/CIA project. Extending over 40 years, “Wong’s Garden” moved from the nagging germ of an idea in Sam Morrison’s head to a concept that overwhelmed the civilized world. This is a work of fiction, but it could easily be true. It is believable, historically accurate and supposes the existence of the Magnum Corporation, headed by Sam Morrison and ex Master Sergeant Gordy.
