The Breviary is the Daily Office prayer book for the monastic Liturgy of the Hours. It is used as the prayer book at Saint Brendan's Monastic Retreat Community and for our Oblates affiliated with Saint Brendan's through the Monastic Fellowship of Saint Brendan's. It can also be used by anyone looking for a traditional yet flexible discipline to daily prayer and devlotional life following in the footsteps of monastic spirituality. It inlcudes the daytime monastic Offices of Lauds, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline as well as the two major Offices of the Church - Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer. It also includes an Intercession Litany as well as appendices on the life of Saint Brendan, historical abstracts on the teaching of prayer, and a short anthology of ancient prayers and hymnody.

Saint Brendan's Monastic Retreat Community holds the copyright on the Breviary. However, The Breviary was compiled and edited by Fr. Alan and Sue Andraeas, the Father Prior and Mother Prioress of Saint Brendan's. Together they serve as the founders of Saint Brendan's and as the spiritual directors for the Oblates of the Monastic Fellowship of Saint Brendan's.

Book Review: |
The Breviary is a contemporary yet traditional prayer book for those who desire to practice the "sanctification of time" through the beauty and discipline of the Liturgy of the Hours. The Breviary is a devotional tool that brings the monastic-hearted (or any devout Christian) before the presence of God throughout the day through Scripture, prayer, and chant. Drawn from a wide range of venerable monastic sources in the Anglican, Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant traditions and blended with a compelling sense of Celtic joy, The Breviary is offered as the gift of Saint Brendan's Monastic Retreat Community to the Church as one of the many means by which God seeks to draw His children into the chambers of His heart.
