The game of “Numbers” was developed to provide an entertaining way to practice basic mathematics. A rectangular grid is provided with appropriately placed math functions and empty cells in which to insert specified numbers. With the numbers inserted, the resulting equations are evaluated and summed to determine the grid value. The objective is to place the numbers in the grid such that the grid value equals its specified maximum possible value.
With simple grids, one can quickly find an optimum number arrangement. As functions other than addition and subtraction are incorporated, and/or the grid gets larger, the difficulty level can increase substantially. As a result, the same basic format, with some variation in focus, can be used to provide challenges for everyone from grade school to graduate school.
