What's So Funny About Long-Term Care?
Lots!
Just because illness enters one door of our life does not mean joy and laughter leave through another. A good dose of humor encourages us to rise above our problems and embrace life in fresh, inventive ways.
Specifically written for individuals involved in long-term care, What's so Funny is full of tips, ideas and examples of how real people (patients, families and caregivers) bring humor to real long-term care and rehabilitation settings. This book is an important reminder that laughter is the catharsis that lets us keep on caring!
What's So Funny will:
* Make you laugh.
* Give you fresh ideas.
* Inspire you to bring more humor into your life.
* Motivate you to bring humor into the lives of others.
As a bonus, many of the ideas in the book can be used to get more humor in your life whether or not you're in a long term-care or rehab situation.

About the Author: |
|
Dr. Patt Schwab is President of FUNdamentally Speaking®, a company that believes in putting the "Fun" before "da Mental." She speaks extensively in the health care industry and travels internationally, inspiring audiences to use humor to gain control over change and adversity. Her theories about the ability of humor to help cope with adversity are based on both research and personal experience. After a horseback riding accident left her with a broken back, humor was her personal weapon during the long recovery process. This experience, along with those of the many participants in her workshops, has given her many of the anecdotes shared in this book. Patt's conviction about the ability of rubber chickens to provide comic relief has led her to develop a new martial art form: Tai chi cken.

Book Review: |
|
This funny, sympathetic, practical book includes short essays ranging from When life freezes over-- ice skate! (how humor helped restore the “mental mobility” of patients and families frozen in place by a health crises), to The Fowl Side of Illness (developing rubber chicken flexibility). There are even specific suggestions for initiating humor between patients and medical professionals. Each essay is backed by numerous real-life examples that the reader can easily adapt to his or her own situation.
As a final bonus, you get big print and short anecdotes, because, face it, when you are sick, or caring for someone who is, you don’t have the time or energy for small print or complex plot lines! You want a book that will take you away for a few minutes, give you a good chuckle or two,
and bring you back with a new perspective or an easy to implement suggestion. That’s what this book will do for you.
