Book Review: |
|
Thirteen chapters. The book begins with a foreward describing the Author's work as a reflection of the lives of the children born of the first generation of blacks to migrate to the Northern urban areas of America. This is in reference to Claude Brown's great work, "Manchild in the Promised Land", where Mr. Brown describes his story as the telling of the lives of his generation, the first generation. The prologue tells of what circumstances spawned the writing of the Author's story and the purpose of this work. The story begins with "Awakeings", the Author's recount of his delivering an infant in a drug house. The story then tells of his life and reveals how he could find himself, a well trained and educated physician, in such horrific circumstances. This work contains multiple stories layered with meaning and reflection that all can relate to.
