About this Book: |
A recent college graduate and full-time coffee shop worker is lost in his perceptions of the world. He writes stories, drinks beer, and is unable to move beyond his own cage. With some unexpected sages and some forthright friends he is carried into a world that's beyond his comprehension - the real one. "Emily" bends between the world that Jacob creates and the world in which he lives. Slowly, he learns that the distinction isn't as clear as he might have hoped.

About the Author: |
Jonathan Gaffney has lived in or around Pittsburgh, PA his entire life. A master of science in physics, he writes about human life when he's not writing about the laws of nature. More than anything else, he appreciates dichotomies and the delicate balance in the world.

Book Review: |
Philosophical and religious in a subtle and oblique manner (you'll not find an explicit reference to any diety), this is a collection of three short stories. Of the two shorter stories, "Brass Ring" is nostalgic and poignant, while "The Fable" is deceptively uplifting. "Emily," by far the longest work in this collection, is full of hope and remorse, joy and grief. The collection resonates with what it means to simply be alive.
