Born in Walker County, Alabama just before the end of World War II. Attended Curry High School, graduated and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1964. Retired from the Marine Corps after more than 28 years of service. Veteran of Vietnam and the First Gulf War (Liberation of Kuwait).
