Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead died August 9, 1995. His death affected the lives of many. Fall Without Jerry chronicles how Jerry's death ultimately sparks New York City deadhead Matthew Baron to embark on a soul searching adventure through Thailand and Indonesia, as he contemplates his questionably fulfilling life, and reconciles the reality that there would be no more Grateful Dead shows. Grateful Dead song lyrics are sprinkled throughout Fall Without Jerry, and are used with permission by Ice Nine Publishing.

Book Review: |

A must read for every deadhead, Fall Without Jerry is a tribute to Jerry Garcia, and the beautiful vibe experienced by attending dead shows. The story, which combines music, travel, and adventure, is written in a flowing, visually inducing style, that integrates Grateful Dead song lyrics as they permeate the reality of the main character. By drawing from the styles of beat masters Kerouac and Burroughs, and mixing in the sense of irony and noncoincidence used so perfectly by Vonnegut, Rosenblum's first novel is at worst, quirky yet apropos, and at best, brilliant.
