Book Review: |
|
This brief biography of Rev. A. W. Mathis presents him as a model student, pastor, preacher, and colleague. A diligent student, Mathis attended seminary on borrowed money and against his preacher father's wishes. Throughout his ministry he used his Greek New Testament.
Mathis the pastor was a faithful curate of souls, as the author demonstrates from personal experience. Mathis the preacher achieved a rare balance in his 3,000 sermons, covering nearly all the themes found in Protestant preaching. And Mathis the colleague set a good example of active participation in ministerial alliances and church associations.
This book is a tribute to a Baptist minister whom other clergy would do well to emulate.
