About this Book: |
I find that a poem is a snapshot of time, or a short feature of a moment, described in my poem Pictures on Paper (Metaphors in Motion). Robert Frost once said, “A poem begins with a lump in the throat; a home-sickness, or a love-sickness. It is a reaching out toward expression; an effort to find fulfillment”. Sometimes I find the analogy of a poem as a sculpture to assist me when “carving away the unnecessary bits”, the unnecessary words to reveal a poem hidden beneath the rough slab of paper as described in Sculpting a Poem. And, sometimes music inspires me as the notes enter my ears and flow out my pen.

About the Author: |
Dave Douglas dabbled with poetry in his late teenage and early adult years, mostly for high school and junior college. He wrote short stories, mostly science fiction, but did not find it as rewarding. Now, in his late thirties, he felt the weight of poetry too much and had to open the floodgates. Since December 2005, he has written over 150 poems. He attends the monthly Poet’s Lane reading in his hometown of Pleasanton, CA hosted by Cynthia Bryant (Pleasanton's current Poet Laureate); along with the Century House readings and surprisingly the Berkeley SLAM.

Book Review: |
The artwork and poetry of Dave Douglas' book fluidly blend the images taken from a modern eye on life, with the use of a traditional lens.
It is clever! It is open! It is real!
