The month of December tip-toed in with its darkness and coldness as an icy soul with the harshness of the season. When Dee heard his diagnosis tears gathered in his eyes then escaped running down his cheeks. A shiver shook his body as he inhaled only a shallow breath.
When darkness overcomes you. What do you do? When there is trouble on every side. What do you do? I now faced fear of the future, and the past. A future without him, and the dreams that I held for his future, will now be rooted in the past. I was so disempowered. I could not ease his pain; I couldn’t make things better. I could not save him. I had always thought I could protect my children and keep them from harm. I was crushed to face the fact that my love was not enough to help him. My heart cried tears!! My unseen pain took over every portion of my body to an almost crippling effect. I had come face to face with my fear!
To see this man of strength who did not let clouds overcast his life, and through the struggles of life gained strength from life’s storms. This ordinary man that found extraordinary strength to persevere and endure. Despite all his efforts, to see his life become pain medication bound to the walls inside his home made my heart mourn. The mourning of my son’s suffering began to take me to dark places. Grief flowed threw me like a river as I searched for life while in darkness!
