"Place Where Light Is" is the fourth collection of poetry published after "Spirit of Rebellion", "Canzoni dimenticate" and "Through the Eyes of Love". It's a poetic quest for light in the world of darkness. Here's an excerpt from the poem "Place Where Light Is": I've been walking in darkness / Of frozen minds, / I saw hearts that were numb / And eyes that were blind, / I saw tears and pain, / War and disease, / But I just kept on walking / To a place where light is.

Sometimes shocking, but always honest and to the point...Shaumyan provides a profound look at day to day American life with a language throbbing from the city streets. Though Shaumyan was born in Russia, his poetry most certainly fits into the alternative American literature tradition of the post-beats.
